We have been helping to spread the very important messages of the RLSS (Royal Lifesaving Society) campaign 'Speak up. Be a Mate'. This campaign is aimed at teenagers and young adults and aims to make them aware of the dangers of open water.
We visited The Morley Academy for a week of assemblies dedicated to highlighting the dangers of open water. These assemblies were delivered to years 7-10, reaching over 1,000 pupils, helping to spread these important messages, to keep themselves and their friends safew in and around the water. It has been great to use this opportunity to educate our local community, helping them to stay safe especially with all the recent hot weather and the increasing number of tragic incidents involving teenages and young adults.

We enjoyed taking part in the RLSS Drowning Prevention Week, where we have dedicated every lesson to water safety. The children have had a lot of fun whilst learning valuable skills and finding out how to keep themselves safe in and around the water.

The RLSS have launched a campaign aimed specifically at teenagers following the number of recent tragic incidents in open water. Teenagers and young adults often take risks around rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs, quarries and other inland and coastal waters, especially in groups. Most teenagers - especially males - don't fully recognise the risks they're taking.
